Pedal Power!

This time last week, Monaghans’ Project Manager Dariush Ghorbani and Quantity Surveyor Gareth Trevor were embarking on a brutal 2-day Alpine cycling challenge climbing five legendary Tour de France summits over a 197km route! This week they will be sitting much more comfortably in the knowledge that the months of training and two days of suffering paid off as they successfully completed the challenge in support of the charity Friendship Works.

Gareth and Dariush were riding alongside a group of Property & Development Partners from our valued long-term client John Lewis, who devised the daunting Alpine cycle challenge in support of Friendship Works as their charity of the year. Part of the national charity Family Action, Friendship Works is a children’s mentoring service dedicated to improving the emotional well-being, resilience and life chances of disadvantaged children and young people in London. Through long-term mentoring, their crucial support allows vulnerable children to enjoy being a child and ultimately enables them to reach their full potential.

Inspired by this worthy cause, the intrepid group of fundraisers cycled a 197km route similar to the famous La Marmotte cyclosportive, climbing the Col de la Croix de Fer (2067m), Col du Glandon (1924m), Col du Telegraphe (1568m), Col du Galibier (2646 m) and finally the infamous 16km climb and 21 bends to Alpe d'Huez (1845m).

Having conquered the high mountains, Dariush and Gareth’s final climb is towards their fundraising target of £2,000. Monaghans would like to thank everyone who has donated so far and encourage anyone who would like to recognise the dedication and achievement of completing this challenge to visit the JustGiving fundraising page – all online donations go straight to the charity so please do click the link below and give generously to Friendship Works:
